I thought he’d go for Doug Burgum, for a semblance of normalcy and weapons grade obsequiousness, and most importantly someone who would not try and steal the attention from Trump or use this immense position of power for his own benefit. In my defence all the other pundits were blindsided as well.
Trump is secure now in his total command of all the three branches of government should he be reelected with a GOP majority in both houses. He no longer fears being associated with any of his fascist rhetoric because he sees that no one is able to counteract his firehose of lies, and Orwellian doublespeak.
In Vance, Trump is promising a retribution that will keep on giving long after he’s dead. It’s kind of a genius move, precisely and only because no one yet has been able to crack the code to break through his lies.
This is the reason that calls for Biden to step down are both ludicrous and self defeating. They are ludicrous because it’s not just Biden, no one has come up with a plan to counteract the incessant lies. And the reason is that they are looking at this from the wrong perspective.
Biden and his team, need to understand the correct perspective to take to counteract Trump’s lies. Fact checking is a dead end and comes from the wrong perspective. The problem is not ‘how do we counteract Trump’s lies’ but rather, ‘why the fuck are people believing this obvious bullshit’.
This is the shift in perspective that Biden and his advisors need to explore because Biden is the only candidate who can beat Trump. Biden may be a bit frail, but having someone more vibrant but unable to understand and counteract the problem is going to be much worse and probably fatal to America’s democracy.
